In my quest to try all the Ardyss products so that I can give my own opinion and suggestions to my clients I am now trying Ardyss Thermogen Plus. This is only day one dose one. Well I took a break when writing to so I can now report of day one dose two. The first one I had with cold water, this second I had with hot water. Both are okay but I think I prefer the cold water although is takes some serious stirring to get it to completely dissolve. But what’s a little stirring to get these last few pounds off. Maybe I ever burned a few extra calories in the process.

How to Get Ripped Abs is a very advanced 12 week complete physique transformation system. It is best suited for the intermediate and advanced trainee and will need access to a fitness center so that the total variety of exercises can be done. This is a very difficult program that I used myself for five weeks to lose twelve pounds and I wasn’t even following the diet strictly.

The workouts alone are so grueling that fat will melt off quicker than ever but I do not recommend this program for the beginner as it’ll be too challenging. What is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate? Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or SLS, to put it simply, is a foaming agent. SLS is used in almost any cleaning or cleansing product that foams when it is used. sodium lauryl sulphate is derived from coconut, but, unlike the claims of some unscrupulous companies that would have you believe that it is a harmless natural ‘coconutty’ ingredient, it in no way resembles coconut or anything harmless or natural by the time it becomes Sodium Lauryl Sulphate as you are about to find out!

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is used in degreasers and the harsh industrial cleaners that are used in places such as mechanics workshops and factories to remove grease and grime from floors or equipment. It is also used in your childs bubblebath, your toothpaste and shampoo. Does that sound right?

The Material Safety Data Sheet or MSDS for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (designed to provide both workers and emergency personnel with information on handling or working with a particular substance) says the following under Section 3 Hazards Identification -

Potential Acute Health Effects:
Hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation. Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (sensitizer). Severe over-exposure can result in death.

Potential Chronic Health Effects:
Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (sensitizer).
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available.
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for bacteria and/or yeast.
TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available.
DEVELOPMENTAL TOXICITY: Not available.
The substance may be toxic to skin.
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage. Repeated exposure to a highly toxic material may produce general deterioration of health by an accumulation in one or many human organs.

and in Section 4 First Aid Measures -

Eye Contact:
Check for and remove any contact lenses. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Cold water may be used. Get medical attention.
Skin Contact:
In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Cold water may be used.Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Get medical attention.
Serious Skin Contact:
Wash with a disinfectant soap and cover the contaminated skin with an anti-bacterial cream. Seek immediate
medical attention.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately.
Serious Inhalation: Not available.

Ingestion:
Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. If large quantities of this material are swallowed, call a physician immediately. Loosen tight
clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband.
Serious Ingestion: Not available.

I might be stating the obvious here, but isn’t this what is happening every day in homes around the world? Most people using ordinary everyday products are coming into contact with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate – using it on their skin – multiple times per day? Let’s count the ways.

1. Shampoo
2. Body wash or shower gel
3. Skin cleanser
4. Toothpaste
5. Hand washing products
6. Dish washing liquids
7. Household cleaning products
8. Industrial cleaning products

As you can see, even the average house wife and her average children are being exposed to this stuff several times a day and what did the MSDS say? It’s hazardous if if comes into contact with skin and eyes? It can build up in organs? Repeated or prolonged exposure can cause organ damage? and repeated exposure can cause a deterioration in health?

Does it make sense to you to be using this in products designed to use on your body? and even worse on your baby’s little bodies? I don’t think so. So why do companies use the stuff?

Simple – It’s cheap and there’s no law against it! That’s why. Sadly, most of the companies producing these products, only really care about their bottom line – not your health. They want to create a product that appears to do the job and that will make them big profits – that’s it.

And yet there’s more! Yes there are other problems with SLS that aren’t mentioned in the MSDS that make using this stuff even worse (as if it wasn’t bad enough already!).

* SLS has been shown to damage the eyes of growing children permanently. It actually prevents them from developing as they should as it affects the protein structure of the eyeball.

* SLS also has been shown to make the skin more permeable for a period of time after it’s use, potentially allowing more of other harmful chemicals that the skin comes into contact with, to be absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream (not a good thing when you realise that the products that contain SLS almost always contain other harmful ingredients also).

* When SLS comes into contact with some other chemicals it causes nitrosating agents to form. Many of these chemicals are commonly used in products containing SLS. Human toxicity for both nitrate and nitrite is well proven, nitrite is the more toxic but nitrate converts readily in the human body to nitrite. It has been estimated that between 50 and 100 micrograms of nitrosamines are applied to the skin when using shampoos etc that contain nitrates. To consume the same amount of this carcinogen you would have to eat over 1lb of bacon.

As seen in the MSDS, it has not been shown at this point in time that SLS is carcinogenic (causes cancer), however the nitrates and nitrites that are formed by it’s coming into contact with other chemicals are, so it doesn’t really matter whether the SLS in itself causes cancer, the combination of SLS with other chemicals will likely make the end product on the shelf and then in your bathroom, potentially carcinogenic.

Note: SLS is used to irritate skin in laboratories – hmmmmm.

Common health problems that can often caused or made worse by the use of SLS and therefore improved or eliminated by stopping using it, are things such as:

* Mouth ulcers (SLS in toothpaste)
* Skin problems such as rashes, excema, itching, psoriasis etc
* Scalp problems -flakey scalp and dandruff
* Dry or unhealthy hair, split ends and breakage
* Bladder or urinary tract infections – caused by soaking in baths with bubble bath containing SLS (very common)
* Cataracts
* Premature aging of skin

Sodium Laureth Sulphate or SLES is the ‘Ethoxylated’ version of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. It has pretty much the same properties, although considered to be less of an irritant, hence it’s use in Baby Products. It has an additional problem tho. Due to the exolyation process, it is likely to be contaminated with 1,4 Dioxane. 1,4 Dioxane causes cancer! and yet SLES is the common foaming agent found in the most commonly used and widely advertised/known brands of baby products. Isn’t that a beautiful picture, baby having a nice relaxing bath with lavender oil to relax him and put him to sleep and a little 1,4 Dioxane mixed in as a surprise ingredient? But it won’t be on the label so don’t bother looking.

Because the 1,4 Dioxane is not an added ingredient, but a bi product of the ethoxylation process used to create ingredients, it’s not on the label. So you wouldn’t know it was there – unless you had it tested.

Tests for 1,4 Dioxin contamination were conducted by on a range of so called ‘Natural’ and ‘Organic’ personal care products in 2008 by the Organic Consumers Association which has over 500,000 members and is overseen by David Steinman (co – author of ‘The Safe Shoppers Bible’ with Dr Samuel Epstein).

Many of these products were found to be contaminated as they contain ‘ethoxylated’ ingredients. Ethoxylation is used on harsh ingredients (not only SLS) to make them milder.

As you’ll see, some had massive amounts of 1,4 Dioxane, some small amounts, but any amount is too much! When I looked at these results, I realised that I’ve used at least one or two of these brands in the past (before I was introduced to the products that I now use and got a little more educated on the whole subject), thinking they were a safe option and I know that many people around the world are doing the same thing – being led down the garden path and having their health compromised at the same time.

Some of these companies are just too small and don’t have the resources to create truly safe products. Some small companies probably believe they’re making a good product, because they don’t have the facilities or again the resources to do the testing of their products and the ingredients going into the products and so are unable to do the job properly, but that’s no excuse. Some of these companies do know and just don’t care. Some companies do their best to hide unsafe ingredients and disguise them to fool their customers into believing they’re making a safe choice.

There are so many different names Sodium Lauryl Sulphate can be listed as – most of us would have no idea it was the same thing! I know the ACCC recently investigated products made here in Australia and branded as ‘Natural’ and ‘Organic’ for not revealing ingredients on it’s labels and misleading consumers. I had actually looked at these products in the health shop and noticed that one of the ingredients was something I hadn’t seen before and when I actually really looked at it and worked the wording around in my head, I realised it was SLS in disguise. Many people wouldn’t have tho. They’d have been looking for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or SLS and that’s not what it said.

I’ve also seen on another very well known brand of personal care and cosmetic products that they don’t even have their ingredients listed. Or they only list the ‘nice’ ones. A family member was a distributor for this company, and showed me an eye cream. The only listed ingredient on the label was Sweet Almond Oil. The cream was white, thick and heavily perfumed – there was more in there than Sweet Almond Oil! My family member who was selling this stuff believed the labelling tho as would many people, not really thinking about it, until I asked her to see her distributor manual and found the ingredient list for the product. There was much more than Sweet Almond Oil in that product, let me tell you! I did note that on the distributor manual, was a notice saying that it was for distributors only – not to be shown to customers. Interesting!

Anyway, I’m getting off track. Avoid SLS and SLES if you value your health – end of story!
